Since I haven’t seen anybody really talk about this, here I go.  This guy, Baltromeo, or whatever, has a reputation much like Kid, and I think this character aspect in particular is similar to him -

See the clear disgust on his face after the unseemly reactions of the crowd?  It wasn’t a real bomb, and yet he knew how they would react, all tripping over each other and climbing over the weak in order to be selfish and survive.  With just the kick of the ball, he reveals the worst about humanity.

So when the other participant comments that he isn’t well liked, he replies “I don’t need to be liked by these shits.”  In his mind, their pathetic and selfish behavior puts them even below him, who is a civilian and cold-blooded killer.  Why is this?

Because, like Kid (in my headcanon), he believes that it is better to be a bad person and be honest about who you are and your faults, rather than to put on a facade of being a good and normal citizen, when actually - when it comes down to the wire - you’d step over your own grandfather to survive.
